About this easy fall dessert recipe
The tender warm apples and blueberries, mixed with the crunchy topping, make the apple blueberry crumble a comforting dessert that never fails. Similar to this popular Apple Crisp, which is a hit.
This kind of baked apple dessert is perfect for potlucks and served warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream. It’s super easy to make and a perfect fall recipe. You can also use mixed berries for the filling or add almond flour to the crumble.

Ingredients
The main ingredients of this recipe are:
- Apples: green medium Granny Smith apples.
- Butter: cold, diced, unsalted butter.
- Sugar: brown sugar for the crumble.
- Orange: fresh orange zest.
- Blueberries: fresh or frozen blueberries, both work.
- Almonds: chopped and toasted almonds.

How to make GF Berry and Apple Crumble
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
Place the peeled, seeded, and cubed apples, the blueberries, and the orange zest in a baking dish. Set aside.

By hand: In a medium bowl, mix the cold diced butter, both sugars, and GF all-purpose flour. Rub together with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
With a food processor: process the gluten-free all-purpose flour, sugars, and cold diced butter until crumbs form.

Sprinkle the crumble and the chopped toasted almonds over the apples.
Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
Served warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Storing
Store the dessert covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Don´t recommend freezing it, it’s never the same, but if you freeze it, when you are ready to enjoy it, warm it in the oven for 10 minutes or until the crumble takes consistency again.
Variations
- GF Flour: try a different mix of GF flour. You can also add almond flour.
- Apples: use another variety of apples, such as Golden or Pink Lady, that hold their shape and give good flavor contrast.
- Blueberries: you can not add them or replace them with mixed berries, fresh or frozen.
- Dried fruits: replace almonds with walnuts and change the flavor.
Serving options:
- Cream: fresh whipped cream, classic!
- Ice cream: serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Syrup: drizzled with maple syrup.
