It’s the perfect topping for cakes, muffins, and so on. It’s very easy and quick to make, and you can also freeze it.

Ingredients
This recipe takes only 4 ingredients:
- Cream cheese: full-fat cream cheese softened at room temperature. Not the spreadable one.
- Butter: unsalted butter softened at room temperature.
- Powdered Sugar: gives consistency.
- Lemon: drops of fresh lemon juice. You can replace the lemon with vanilla extract.

How to make classic cream cheese frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, softened butter, sifted powdered sugar, and lemon juice with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. You can replace the lemon juice with one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Chill the frosting for 20 minutes before spreading.
What if your cream cheese frosting is too runny? Make sure to use full-.fat cream cheese frosting, not the spreadable one. Chill it for 20 minutes before spreading it. You can add more powdered sugar to achieve a better consistency (not too much, you run the risk of it being too sweet).

Storing
Store leftover cream cheese frosting covered in the refrigerator. Also, you can make the frosting ahead and store it covered in the refrigerator.
You can freeze it in an air-tight container and, when ready to use, thaw it in the refrigerator.
