- 1 lb strawberries (500gr) rinsed, hulled, and thickly chopped
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon or orange zest optional
Place chopped strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a deep saucepan and heat over medium heat until boiling, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
Reduce the heat and cook for 15-17 minutes more, stirring occasionally. When the sauce is thickened, remove from the fire and let cool at room temperature. Keep in mind that the sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.
